PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
As a member of the senior management team, the Vice President, Health, Safety and Environment will:
Build the corporate Health, Safety and Environment strategy and is accountable for developing and rolling out the associated plans, policies, programs, standards and procedures;
Proactively seek new approaches and innovation to ensure our employees, contractors, and clients remain safe from workplace harm; and
Liaise with the Community and Regulatory organizations on behalf of the Company on the subject of Health, Safety and the Environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Position provides leadership and direction related to occupational health, safety and the environment to the organization.
Manages the HSE team across Canada. As a people manager, is responsible for selecting, training and developing their team in alignment with the corporate H&S; vision, principles and regulations.
Is a key partner to our Senior Operational Leads on all matters relating to HSE.
Assists in driving continuous improvement throughout the organization; ensuring that projects adhere to applicable federal, provincial and state regulations. Incumbent meets this accountability through regular project audits and site visits.
Position develops and implements corporate HSE standards, programs, policies and procedures.
Ensures, through a risk-management approach, required HSE-related programs, policies, procedures and standards are developed and consistently implemented throughout the organization. Ensures that all employees and supervisors of people are provided training to assist in the management and understanding of HSE programs, policies, procedures and standards.
Oversees all activities related to technical training.
Ensures technical training is conducted at all projects in accordance to applicable federal, provincial or state regulations and Company standards and policies.
Reviews accident investigation reports and participates in the accident investigation process as required.
Ensures that all worker claims and workers’ compensation matters are managed according to applicable federal, provincial or state regulations, as well as corporate standards and policies.
Conducts health and safety audits at the corporate level, offices, sites and projects
Accountable to develop annual HSE corporate goals, plans, key performance indicators and continuous improvement projects.
Monitors and responds to changes in occupational health and safety, training and worker’s claims and compensation related legislation.
Represents the company on external HSE related associations and committees.
Takes responsibility for HSE matters, in conjunction with General Managers, including adherence to all applicable requirements.

Desired Skills and Experience:
Minimum of 20 years of experience in progressively responsible Health and Safety or other management roles in the Mining or Mine contracting sector, with a minimum of ten (10) years in a Health & Safety management role.
Minimum 10 years working on site in a senior Health & Safety capacity
Prior experience developing and rolling out new Health & Safety policies and procedures for new businesses or JV’s
Prior experience developing and executing Health & Safety strategy across Canada (or similar region)
The ideal candidate will currently be in a Vice President role with the capability to progress to a Senior Vice President role within three (3) years
Experience in managing a team and improving Health & Safety performance (e.g. reduce LTIs, etc.)
A recognized degree, diploma or certification in Health & Safety Management or comprehensive experience in managing Health and Safety in an organization (e.g. NCSO, CRSP, CSP, etc.)
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
